Our Gr. 4/5 students planned and presented our Remembrance Day assembly. As part of their learning, they read the "Peace Train" and wrote about ways we can bring about peace in our own lives and communities. They recognize that they hold peace in their hands and can be agents of change each and every day. See here what some of them have to say!

Poppies abound at South Nelson! Several classes have been learning about the meaning of the poppy and how it represents remembrance. There are many beautiful displays of these cheerful flowers throughout the school. It was wonderful to see so many students giving a donation and wearing a poppy on Remembrance Day.

Our grade 2-3 classroom at South Nelson is buzzing with excitement as we settle into the rhythm of learning. While our weekly forest visits are a beloved tradition, recent safety concerns regarding grizzly bears have temporarily kept us indoors. Nevertheless, our young learners are fully engaged in their studies.

October is the time for pumpkins! There has been much going on around the school about pumpkins and throughout the school you will find all kinds of beautiful art and writing about pumpkins. Classes have also been using pumpkins to support their writing, their math (ie - counting and graphing the seeds!), and are carving pumpkins. We have some very beautiful and creative pieces of art!

So many classes at South Nelson have been enjoying this beautiful fall weather. They have brought their learning indoors and have made so many beautiful pieces of art using the natural elements found outdoors. They created leave animal scenes, leaf foxes, a collaborative art installment of a leaf rainbow. They have even been writing about leaves!

Mrs. De Sousa's class has been studying the rock cycle. They have been gathering rocks, making rocks (out of chocolate - yum!) and have a rock tumbler going to polish rocks. They have included their study of rocks into outdoor education.  They have also been reading and writing about rocks.

South Nelson Student Council is spreading Kindness! This fall they are sharing with others by painting colourful rocks with encouraging notes. These rocks can be found in and around school gardens. They bring cheer to our courtyard and students are encouraged to take one or leave one. These are putting smiles on our students faces as they find these happy messages around the school.
