Hello Families,

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, grandmothers, and special caregivers in our community! Thank you for all you do and what you contribute to the lives of children.

See below for this week’s update.

Have a great week!

Last week’s highlights include:

  • Welcome to K – We welcomed our next year’s kindergarten students to the school. Parents and children were able to come to our Kindergarten classroom to play and have an orientation. Registration is still open, so please encourage anyone you know with a K-aged child to register as soon as possible!
  • Mother's Day art - So many students created cards and gifts for mothers to take home on the weekend. Hope you enjoyed them!
  • Gr. 4/5 Art Starts Stop Motion project: Our Gr. 4/5 stop motion projects are coming along! They will finish this week. We look forward to seeing the final projects!
  • Butterfly release – Our Gr. ½ class concluded their unit on butterflies by releasing them this week! See the blog post here: https://southnelson.sd8.bc.ca/blog/butterflies-south-nelson
  • Gr. 2/3’s Puppet shows – The Gr. 2/3  students completed and performed their puppet shows. You can read more at the blog post here: https://southnelson.sd8.bc.ca/blog/puppet-show-entertainment
  • Gr. 4/5 Bake Sale – Thank you to all who contributed to our bake sale! The Gr. 4/5 classes raised almost $550 for the West Kootenay Eco Society. The goodies were amazing – we couldn’t have done it without the support of parents and students baking and preparing.
  • Indigenous Field Games – We had an Indigenous guest come and teach our students about various types of Indigenous games. You can see the full blog post here: https://southnelson.sd8.bc.ca/blog/indigenous-games
  • Talent show! This, of course, was a highlight. Thank you to all who supported and came out to see the amazing talent we have here at South Nelson. You can read more at this blog post here: https://southnelson.sd8.bc.ca/blog/south-nelsons-got-talent

A few pieces of information/reminders for you:

  1. Dressing appropriately – As the weather has changed to warmer temperatures and students will be outside, please be sure to send your child to school with a hat, water bottle, and sunscreen. There are many outdoor excursions planned, so students should always be ready. It is also tick season, so a hat will help especially with trips to the forest.
  2. Wheels at school – We encourage students to come by bike and scooter to school! However, we do ask that they walk their wheels while on school property for safety reasons. If you can please remind your child, that would be great!

Some upcoming dates (you can also find these posted on our calendar: https://southnelson.sd8.bc.ca/events/calendar)
