Mrs. Bonikowsky's class has been learning about the provinces of Canada and what makes each of them special. To celebrate our own hometown of Nelson, students created their own book based on the book "If You're Not from the Prairies" in which the author highlights all the wonderful geographical elements of growing up in the prairies.

Big thanks to our Gr. 4/5 students for hosting our Remembrance Day Assembly on Nov. 10. It was a beautiful time that honoured those who have gone before us to fight for peace around the world. We were joined by special guests, Mr. Gaschnitz (Past President of the Nelson Legion), and Sailor 3rd Class (S3) Madison Storey (Canadian Navy, Material Management Technician, CFB Esquimalt).

Our Gr. 4/5 students planned and presented our Remembrance Day assembly. As part of their learning, they read the "Peace Train" and wrote about ways we can bring about peace in our own lives and communities. They recognize that they hold peace in their hands and can be agents of change each and every day. See here what some of them have to say!

Poppies abound at South Nelson! Several classes have been learning about the meaning of the poppy and how it represents remembrance. There are many beautiful displays of these cheerful flowers throughout the school. It was wonderful to see so many students giving a donation and wearing a poppy on Remembrance Day.
