South Nelson Shows up in Pink!

South Nelson showed up with kindness in a sea of pink for Pink Shirt day!

It has been a great season of learning about kindness, inclusion, friendships, and problem solving. Classes explored what bullying is, what it means to be a friend, and how kindness and standing up for others make a difference.

There were many writing activities, art projects, and kindness pledges scattered throughout the school.

In addition, our classes really brought forward what it means to be kind at our Pink Shirt Day Assembly.

  • We learned about what bullying is and is not, as well as how to be an upstander.
  • Mrs. C’s Gr. 1/2 class wrote and performed a poem on what it means to be kind.
  • Ms. Finnie and Mrs. Bonikowsky’s Gr. 2/3 classes performed a wonderful rendition of the song “Don’t Give UP on Me”. They showed us how important it is to stay close to our friends and stand up for others.
  • Mrs. DeSousa and Mrs. Sparks’ Gr. 4/5 classes performed “True Colours” in two parts! What an accomplishment. They showed us how we can celebrate diversity and share the unique parts of who we are with others.

We ended with a sweet, unexpected dance party celebration of Kindness Spots.

South Nelson kids are awesome!
