SNES Weekly News March 3

Image

Hello Families,

Welcome to a new week and happy March! Two weeks until spring break. I know we are all looking forward to some time off, the spring weather, and perhaps some travel.

See below for this week’s update.

Last week’s highlights include:

  • Whitewater ski days   – We had our last Whitewater day. It was a beautiful day and a great conclusion to our series of ski days.
  • Pink Shirt Day assembly – Our student leaders helped prepare and lead our Pink Shirt day assembly. It was great to see so many students in Pink Shirts to honour the day. Read more at this blog.
  • Preparation for Cardboard arcade – Our intermediate students are continuing to plan their designs for the upcoming cardboard arcade
  • Reading Link Challenge – Our intermediate students have been working hard at reading their books for the upcoming reading link challenge.
  • Community math – Mrs. Bonikowsky’s class had an exciting, hands on field trip looking for multiplication arrays in the community. Students were very engaged and learned that math is everywhere (once you start looking for it!)
  • Indigenous games – Mrs. Corner (our Indigenous success teacher), has been teaching classes a variety of Indigenous games. Students have learned games using only sticks and hoops.

A few pieces of information/reminders for you:

  1. Lost and Found – Spring break is coming and our lost and found is growing! Please ensure you come by the lost and found table before the break to gather anything that belongs to your family. Anything left at the break will be donated.
  2. Dress for the weather! This is a season of unpredictable weather. Our top field can get very muddy. Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather each day and has extra clothes in their backpack.

Some upcoming dates (you can also find these posted on our calendar: https://southnelson.sd8.bc.ca/events/calendar)

  • March 7 – Play in the K

  • March 11 – Reading Link Challenge

  • March 13 – Cardboard Arcade

  • March 14 – Report Cards released

    • Last day before Spring Break

  • March 31 – First day back from Spring Break

Family learning resources:

The cardboard arcade is coming up. This is a time when students use their knowledge about physics, small machines, and design thinking to create an engaging game.

You can do this at home too!

Here are some fun STEM activities that can be done as a family at home.

Have a great week,

Mrs. Snell
