SNES Weekly News April 7

Hello Families,
Happy Spring and welcome back from spring break! It is hard to believe we are already into the last term of our school year. These next few months will be very busy with year end academic programming, field trips, and events.
It was great to have everyone back last week and to hear all their stories about their holiday. Learning got well underway.
See below for this week’s update.
Last week’s highlights include:
- ADST Challenge – The Gr. 4/5 classes started an ADST innovation project/competition. The learning goal of this project is to re-design an object to make it more eco friendly. Students will be learning what it means to innovate and redesign, and how to prepare to build a prototype. They will have the opportunity to submit their design to the contest.
- Gr. 2/3 Spring Gratitude Flowers – The Gr. 2/3 class has been learning about the importance of practicing gratitude. They created flowers about all the things they are grateful for. Read more at this blog post here.
- The ABCs of Nelson – Mrs. Bonikowsky’s class started a big project to write and illustrate a book called “The ABC’s of Nelson”. They have been learning about the community and the writing and publishing process. The final book will be featured at the Rosemont Park Story Walk Display from May 15 -June 15.
- Fur Trade – Gr. 3/4s started learning about the fur trade and how it shaped the development of Canada.
- Outdoor learning – With the spring weather, outdoor learning is picking up momentum! Classes will be heading outdoors more for their learning on a weekly basis
- Play in the K – We hosted our final Play in the K for our incoming K students. It was our largest showing of new Kindergarten students.
