SNES News Nov. 10
Hello families!
I hope you had a great weekend and some fun Halloween celebrations as a family. There has been a lot going on these last few weeks! Thanks for keeping up with all the news from your child’s classroom.
Some highlights from the last few weeks include:
-
Halloween – It was great to see all the wonderful and creative costumes on Halloween! Everyone was proud to show off their costume and participate in many fun activities. We had a costume parade in the morning, as well as dances at recess and lunch for students who wished to participate.
-
Ecosystem dioramas – Several classes are working on environmental dioramas of ecosystems and biomes. They are very engaged in adding all the details to showcase their learning. Some classes are creating video presentations of their dioramas.
-
Climate change – Mrs. DeSousa’s class wrapped up a project on climate change. Students researched the topic and created poster boards which they presented to the class.
-
Math facts practice – All classes continue to work on building fluency with math facts. This includes lots of work on place value as well. Be sure to check weekly emails and dojo posts about the math drills your child is working on.
-
Pen Pals – The Gr. 5/6s are writing to pen pals in Quebec. They are learning about writing friendly letter, descriptive writing, and story writing. Other classes are working on persuasive writing.
-
Trafalgar buddies – In addition to having weekly peer tutors from Trafalgar, several classes have buddy classes who come over from Trafalgar. Mrs. Lehnert’s big buddy class cam over last week and worked on writing Halloween stories with her class.
-
Pumpkin carving – More pumpkin carving abounded! Mrs. DeSousa’s class pulled out all their creative ideas and carved pumpkins together. It was great to see all of the imagination put into their creation.
-
Avalanche safety – Mrs. DeSousa’s class had a presentation on avalanche safety, preparing students for being outdoors in the mountains over the winter.
-
Art - Mrs. Bonikowsky’s class is learning about Color Theory. The kids created super cute Bird paintings and explored the color wheel and complementary colors. Mr. Marsh’s class also has been working with water colours and painted some pictures of turtles. The Gr. 4-6 classes also worked with different art mediums and styles to create pictures of pumpkins and poppies.
-
Remembrance Day Assembly – Today we acknowledged Remembrance Day as a school. Many thanks to parents, students and staff who participated. Several classes presented songs and poems. Read more at the Remembrance Day assembly blog.
A few reminders for you:
- Dress for the weather! There has been a significant shift in the weather and we are now entering cooler days of fall. Please ensure your child is coming each day dressed warmly and with extra gloves/toques tucked into their backpacks. Our classes often go outside for extended periods of learning so it is good to be prepared for the weather each day
