Hello Families, 

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend. It’s great to see more winter these days! I trust you and your family were able to get out and enjoy the new snow. 

See below for this week’s update. 

Last week’s highlights include:

• GROWS assembly  – On Friday, Jan. 31 we had our GROWS assembly that focused on the “O” in GROWS – having “open hearts and open minds”. Students learned about diversity and being open to including others in various ways. Then we did a multi-age activity where students coloured a hand using a colour that matches their skin.  Read more here.
• Play in the K – Our first Play in the K of the year was a great success! Next year’s upcoming K’s came for a morning of play in the Kindergarten room on Jan. 24. They were able to explore the Kindergarten classroom with their caregivers, and get to know the teachers and their peers.
• Gr. 4/5 Volleyball– The Gr. 4/5 students participated in the district wide volleyball meet on Jan. 24. All students put forth great effort and represented South Nelson well! It was a great opportunity to get together with students from other schools across the district to show off their skills and have fun. 
• Indigenous Art – Several classes have been working on indigenous art pieces. They have studied the artists, elements of art used, and developed their skills. See this blog post for more information:
• PAC movie night – Huge thanks to the PAC for hosting the movie night last Friday, Jan. 31. What a great community event. 

A few pieces of information/reminders for you:

1. Enrolment for 2024-25 – We are starting to look at our projections for enrolment next year. If you anticipate no longer being at South Nelson next year, please let us know. In addition, if you know of any families, or new K students coming, please let them know to register as soon as possible.
