South Nelson Students have Open Hearts and Open Minds!
Last week, South Nelson students focused in on what it means to have "Open Hearts and Open Minds".
This is part of our Code of Conduct - It represents the "O" in GROWS (South Nelson GROWS great kids!)
As part of our assembly, students learned about diversity, how each of us think differently and how to be open to the perspectives of others. They learned that having an open mind and heart includes:
Trying new things
Accepting others for who they are
Being inclusive
Being open to learning
Showing respect
Learning what makes each person unique
Valuing differences in others.
We also learned about the indigenous symbols of having an open heart and mind. The raven represents creation, trying new things, a growth mindset and valuing differences. The wolf symbolizes loyalty, good communication, and respect.
We watched the video ""The Skin you Live in" and did a multi-age activity in which we did an art project talking about and colouring the differences in our skin colour.
Student acheived 297 "Gotcha" cards this month for demonstrating great attitudes and open minds and hearts. Great work, South Nelson!
