Hello Families, 

We are almost at the end of April! This week we have early dismissals and next week it will be May! The school year is flying by and these last couple months are already booking up quickly with year end learning activities and events. 

See below for this week’s update for what our students have been up to these last couple of weeks. 

Last week’s highlights include:

• April GROWS assembly – This month, our GROWS assembly focused on “W” – Working together. Students learned about what it looks like, sounds like and feels like. They then worked together in their multi-age classrooms on a STEM challenge to build a contraption.
• SARS presentation – Mrs. Bonikowsky’s Gr. ¾ class had a special visit from Nelson SARS and learned about their rescue process. They also learned how to be “adventure smart” and take care of themselves as they are exploring outdoors
• Scholastic Book fair – Huge thanks to our parent volunteers for helping make this happen! It was a huge success. We raised over $3000 in sales and about $860 in credit for our school.
• Basketball tournament – Our Gr. 4/5 students participated in the district basketball tournament at Hume school. They participated well and represented South Nelson!
• Human Body systems – Intermediate students have been learning all about the various body systems. They have been making models and diagrams of how our bodies work.
• Poetry –There has been some great poetry writing coming from our intermediate students. They have been learning about different figures of speech and various poetic forms
• Outdoor learning – With the great weather, many classes have been heading outdoors! They have been doing outdoor math activities, visits to the Maple Forest, Gyro Park and Prince Philip park.
• Earth Day -To participate in Earth day, our students did a garbage clean up. Each class took a zone around the school and picked up garbage. Thanks to all for helping keep our environment clean!
