SNES News Nov. 24
Hello families!
Well, we are into the last week of November. It is amazing we are heading so quickly towards our winter break! Learning Updates will be released next week and there is so much learning happening throughout the school.
Here are some highlights from last week:
-
Decomposing numbers – Gr. ¾ students are learning how to add 2, 3 and 4 digit numbers. The BC math curriculum requires that students at this age show their understanding by decomposing the numbers being added (this means, breaking down the numbers into their hundreds, tens and ones and then adding those place value groups up). They are doing many hands on activities to show this, then recording their thinking
-
Earth Rangers Assembly – We finished the week with an entertaining presentation by the Earth Rangers. This presentation was an interactive way to inform students about animal conservation and protection of wildlife. There was a game show, a hologram host, and live animals! Students were very engaged in the presentation and demonstrated how much they already knew about many animals. Some classes are extending their learning into ecosystems, habitats and independent studies on an environmental topic of their choice.
