Hello families!

Welcome to a new week. It is hard to believe we are rolling full steam into the end of November! It is great to see so much learning happening and students really getting into some great projects. Teachers are beginning to prepare for the first term learning updates and it is already great to see so much progress from the beginning of the year.

Here are some highlights from last week:

  • Math in action! – In Mrs. DeSousa’s classroom students have been working on a math project that has them using a variety of math skills with an end goal of creating a 'Snack Shack' menu board. They have been working with their understanding of simple multiplication, fractions, decimals and percent to set costs with discounted rates for their menus. This has been a good opportunity for students to put math into real world learning, while allowing them to use analytical thinking skills to break down complex equations. Even though this is tricky, they are doing great!

  • Creative Writing – A focus on writing continues through many different learning opportunities. Students engage in daily word work, vocabulary, and spelling skill building activities. They put these skills to work in a variety of ways! We have students writing to penpals, students writing research/information papers, and personal opinion pieces. Mrs. Bonikowsky’s class got creative and drew cartoon monsters and then used creative language to describe their monster in writing

A few reminders for you:

  1. WEATHER – a reminder that this wet weather is here to stay. We have noted many students going outside with only hoodies and running shoes and may not have a change of clothes or indoor shoes. Please ensure your child has indoor shoes, and possibly even a change of clothes in their backpack (or to stay at school). Additionally, please ensure they have appropriate rainproof outerwear and footwear. We have long recesses at school and many classes do outdoor learning. Thanks for your help with this!
