Reminders

  • There is lots of different illnesses going around right now, please keep students at home when they are unwell to ensure we reduce the likelihood of viruses being passed on. See the attached guidelines about student illnesses.
  • Lost and Found Photos are below – we have quite the collection! We will be taking clothes that are not claimed to be donated on March 17th.
  • We are getting close to the muddy season. We believe that outside unstructured play is essential, but we also know that this means students get dirty. If this is a concern for you, it is time to remind your children to stay away from the muddy areas on our playground. Fingers crossed, spring is coming.
  • There is a French Language film happening in Trail, if this is interesting to your family, see the poster that wa was sent to family contacts by email.

Parent Resources

We know learning is a continuum, with no two children having the same strengths and needs. In addition the last few years has been a challenge for us all, but especially for our students. In order to protect our families or vulnerable members of the community, students had less opportunity to socialize and play, in order to build the social problem solving skills. This is  a great resource for families to continue growing resiliency in our kids.

Information Worth Sharing

YOUTH CLIMATE ACTIVISM AWARD

We are reaching out today to share the news about the British Columbia-wide Youth Climate Activism Award 2023 open to your students in any grade. Nicknamed the ‘Greta award’, it requires applicants to demonstrate devotion to taking meaningful steps towards improving the outlook for our planet with respect to climate change. Last year was the first year of the award and we rolled it out to school districts of Vancouver Island and the Salish Sea. We learned a lot and have received some valuable feedback about how to share the good news about the award and introduce it to students and school administrators.

We are very sensitive about asking too much of our schools, as we are aware of the overwhelm that has been exacerbated by the pandemic. We ask that each and every school in British Columbia help to make their students aware of this powerful initiative. We want to be sure that your students who are making a difference, will have an opportunity to be recognized. Our Youth Climate Cabinet, the custodians of the Award are working diligently to magnify this climate movement.

It’s a simple idea but it’s a big idea: shine a light so that teenagers can see the positive efforts their friends are making. Shine a light so that adults, communities and politicians can see these young spirits on fire. The submission must take the form of a film of up to 5 minutes or a 500-word essay or a combination of text and photo essay, that shares the applicant’s passion and commitment to their climate activism. Submissions are received online through our website during the application period which begins Earth Day April 22, 2023, and closes on May 18, 2023. Cash awards are as follows: $1000 for students 14 to 19 years of age; $500 for students under 14.

We have attached the poster which we hope may be prominently displayed in your school. Please reach out with any questions you may have. We have also enclosed this letter as a PDF and we would be grateful if you could assist us by circulating it to your colleagues.
