Hello Families,
This is the last full week of school! So many things are happening to wrap up the school year. We look forward to a fun week.
See below for this week’s update
Highlights from last week include:
- Gr. 5 community celebration day – Our Gr. 5’s will be heading off to Trafalgar next year! They had their year end field trip in which they celebrated their many years of learning together in elementary school. They went to Castlegar for bowling, a picnic at Millenial Park, and swimming. Big thanks to the PAC for their continued support for this event each year
- Jump Rope for Heart – This was such a successful day! Big thanks to Mrs. Lehnert for organizing such a great event. We started the day with a presentation from the Nelson Rhythm Ropers and then students moved between stations learning some skipping skills. Thanks to everyone for their helping their child(ren) canvas for donations.
- Grohman Narrows Pond Study – Gr. ½ students went to Grohman Narrows for a pond study. They spent the afternoon gathering water samples, and learning about the ecosystem in our area
- Cottonwood Pond study – Our Gr. ¾ students also did a pond study at Cottonwood Lake! They gathered in the morning for a day of learning, and then rode their bikes back to the school on the rail trail
- Science World – Science World visited our school on Friday and put on engaging shows for our students. The primary students had a presentation on what it means to be a scientist and learned how to “observe, predict and test-it-out”. The intermediate students had an engaging presentation on different types of weather systems.
- Shayna Jones – Shayna was back again this year with a week of learning for our intermediate stories. She started the week with a presentation on storytelling, then visited each classroom during the week for individualized presentations. Students will be following up this week by writing and presenting their own stories.
- Indigenous Games – It is Indigenous History Month and our Indigenous success teacher taught our students some Indigenous games. Read more at this blog post.
- Outdoor learning – So many classes went outdoors to enjoy the beautiful weather. Visits were had to the rail trails, Lion’s park and playgrounds.
- Swimming – Swimming continues for our Gr. 2/3 students.
A few pieces of information/reminders for you:
- Dressing for the weather – A reminder that as the weather warms up classes will be outdoors more. Please ensure your child comes prepared for the warm weather including a hat, water bottle and sunscreen in their backpack.
- Lost and Found – We are getting to the end of the school year and have lots of hoodies and outerwear in our lost and found. Drop by to find out what might belong to you! Anything left at the end of the school year will be donated.
