SNES News Dec. 9
Hello families,
Happy winter! It looks like winter is now here to stay. I hope many of you enjoyed the opening of the ski hill over the weekend. It is great to have family sports to enjoy together.
We have two weeks left of school until the holidays and there is a lot going on! Be sure to always check in with your class Dojos and teacher updates to stay aware of what is happening in your child’s classroom.
Learning updates were posted last week. Please check into MyEd to get your report. Teachers worked very hard on compiling these great snapshots of your child’s learning.
Some highlights from last couple of weeks include:
- Ballet – Our intermediate classes had the opportunity to go to LVR to see a Ballet performance byt the Ballet BC Annex. The performance included 3 short dance pieces, a 3-5 minute film about Zachary Seto's process, and an opportunity for students to ask questions.
The pieces included some works with hip hop influences.

- Bannock – Our Indigenous students had the opportunity to learn how to make Bannock! They spent time with our Indigenous success teacher and learned the process from scratch. There were many happy smiles as they ate their yummy Bannock!
- Readers Theatre - –Mrs. Bonikowsky’s class has been working hard on their winter reader’s theatre pieces. It’s a great opportunity for students to showcase their reading and their performance skills!
- Cards for Seniors – Several of our classes are considering those who may not have family close by and would appreciate a gift during this season. They have been making cards to be sent to seniors homes
-
Winter Concert preparation – Classes have been working hard to get their songs performance ready. Everyone is looking forward to sharing their learning in an afternoon of music!

Here are some resources to help you support the learning at home this week:
As many of you head outdoors for winter activities, here are some activities to be mindful of our environment and observant and reflective. These can even be done in your own backyard or from a favourite window:
Sit spots: https://wildsight.ca/education-resources/sit-spots/ - These are great to do all year long and watch your favourite spot change throughout the seasons!
Nature Journals: https://wildsight.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Nature-Journals.pdf - Another great way to preserve your observations for a beautiful keepsake.
That’s it for now.
Have a great week!
Mrs. Snell
