SNES News Dec. 4

Image

Hello families,

Happy December! I can’t believe how quickly this season has crept up on us. We are in the last stretch to the holidays! A lot is going on these days, so be sure to watch your child’s class newsletters and Dojo platforms for specific information about classroom activities.

See below for this week’s update.

Last week’s highlights include:

  • Concert preparation – Singing, singing and more singing! The music room has been a hustle and bustle of activity as we have been pulling all the concert pieces together with extra rehearsals. We are looking forward to sharing our learning with you!
  • Holiday crafts – You will see so many beautiful crafts and artwork displayed in the hallwaysStudents have been busy learning so many different art styles and techniques and have created some really lovely work. Watch for more holiday crafts coming home!
  • Big Buddies – Our big buddy classes continue to enjoy getting together to read, play games, and do crafts together. We also have big buddy classes from Trafalgar who are coming over to be in our classes. What great partnerships and role models!
  • Outdoor forest play – With the bear alert lifted, our classes have been able to engage in more outdoor and neighbourhood excursions. They have resumed “Walking Wednesday” and their forest play
  • Penpal letters – To support real-life writing opportunities, some of our classes have penpals! They are getting to know students in other schools, while also learning the skills and forms of letter writing. Some great connections are being made!

A few pieces of information/reminders for you:

Family learning resources:

Here are some resources to help you support the learning at home this week

  1. Digital Parenting attachments – Please see the attachments sent to your inbox from the recent Digital Parenting seminar last week. There are some really great top 10 suggestions for ensuring your child’s online safety
  2. For more information you can visit the Safer Schools Together website and access the “Raising Digitally Responsible Youth: A Parent’s Guide”: https://saferschoolstogether.com/news-events/raising-digitally-responsible-youth-a-parents-guide-2/. There is a lot of information in there about digital safety, social media, YouTube, and video games
  3. Consider talking about your family’s digital media values and creating a Digital Media Contract. See here for a template for K-5:
