Hello Families,
Happy Monday! I trust you had a good weekend. It was beautiful weather to get out and enjoy the outdoors together as a family.

Last week’s highlights include:
- A huge congratulations to our Gr. 4/5 students on their success in the Reading Link Challenge! The South Nelson Team, “Dust Bunnies” won the district contest! Read more here: https://southnelson.sd8.bc.ca/blog/dust-bunnies-win-contest
- A return to our weekly outdoor excursions in the community. Many classes were outside enjoying this beautiful spring weather!
- Solar eclipse learning – Many of our classes are studying the solar system and the eclipse was a great learning experience! In addition, all our classes kept tabs on the eclipse by watching the live stream throughout the day
- Other science learning includes learning about the water cycle
- ADST projects – Our Gr. 4/5 classes are starting their Art Starts project with digital animation. In addition our Gr. 2/3 class started learning about animation and storytelling through Bloxels
- To get ready for our Math Mania event, several classes had Susan Milner from Science World come in to engage the students on logic puzzles and math games

- Fresh to you Fundraiser! Thank you for your support! The fruit and veggie bundles will be ready for pick up on April 18.

- SD8 Sustainability survey - The Board of Education is seeking to develop a Sustainability Policy and is looking for feedback from students, staff, and parents on what to consider in this work. The Sustainability Public Engagement page and survey is attached here for you.
- Student Learning Survey – Gr. 4, 7 and 10 students will be completing the Student Learning Survey. All parents are invited to participate as well. Please help our school develop a strong learning plan by giving your feedback!

With the weather changing and everyone wanting to be outside, here is a link to some suggestions for how you can combine being outdoors, keeping active, while practicing sight words and reading. The activity can be adjusted for higher reading levels with a bit of creativity. Enjoy!
