Weekly Update - 23Oct22

Good day out there, South Nelson Community.

It has been a big weekend on my end as I had the great fortune of being involved with 70 other teachers, principcals, and senior leaders from across six Kootenay/Boundary school districts in Nelson all day Friday and again on Saturday morning for important learning sessions on 'Compassionate Systems Leadership'.  So thankful to be able to re-create our regional connections again after quite a few years of this being on hold and to help spread knowledge and experience with this particular lens on leading human systems.  After that I headed to Kelowna for a 12-team U15 hockey tournament and our team is about to head into the finals.  Let's go West Kootenay!

This month's contribution to our Superintendent's Report comes from Mrs. Crosland & Ms. Long's grade 1/2 class.  Thanks, Mrs. C & Ms. L!

In our grade ½ classroom we have been working on building relationships, getting out into our community and teaching core competencies. Our aim is to help students develop intellectual, personal, social and emotional learning while connecting to space and place (their community) in hopes of helping students to engage in deep, lifelong learning. In the month of September, we visited Kokanee Park to learn about the life cycle of the Salmon, and we also visited our local Library where each student got their own library card. We have plans in the next coming weeks to visit the Fire Department, Police Station and the Chamber of Commerce. As well as getting out into our community we also play daily outside where we are practicing social skills like sharing how we feel, using kind words and being active listeners.

To the details...

Take care, everyone.
