On a Green Note
Ms. Lehnart and her Gr. K/1s have been in contact with the city of Nelson and they have secured three Foodcyclers for South Nelson! The city has offered upgrades to residents and the original Foodcyclers will be distributed to schools around the district, South Nelson being the first. We have set up Foodcyclers in three classrooms, and have started food collection in several more. Soon we hope to have every class participating. We plan to have all the school's food scraps turned into fertilizer to keep garbage out of the dumps and give back to our garden spaces. Ms. Lehnart's class has enjoyed watching our food waste reduce by 2/3 to 3/4.

FOR EVERYONE |
Good afternoon - the Nelson Museum has two exciting new exhibitions opening in May and June that may be of interest to your students and teachers, and I am hoping you can pass this info along to your staff.
Otanimm/Onnimm (Daughter/Father), opening May 20, features a short film by Canadian multi-media artist Terrance Houle and his daughter Neko Wong-Houle. This award-winning film explores the complicated bonds between family, as well as technical experimentation throughout the filmmaking process. A poster and press release with further information is attached.
Brain Scans / Neurotransmitting (opening June 23) is also a family affair, created by Ruth and TJ Cuthand. The exhibition features Ruth's intricately beaded reproductions of MRI scans, as well as a film component from TJ. Both facets of the exhibition illuminate the difficulty of facing mental health challenges, and how families unite in support. A poster is attached.
Both shows are available for student tours and are running through the end of the school year. If you would like to schedule a tour for your class, please email info@nelsonmuseum.ca for more information and to arrange a time.

FOR EVERYONE |
We are a Canadian non-profit (The Starfish Canada) and we facilitate educational workshops for classes from kindergarten to grade 12. Our workshops are solution-based learning activities to solve environmental challenges. We can offer workshops in English as well as in French. Could you please tell me who would be the best person to contact to present our workshops? For example, I was wondering if one of our workshops could be presented during a pro-D Day.
Thank you, -- Laura Vaché (She/Her/Elle) Bilingual Development Manager
