What Fraction is it?

We have one week left before Spring Break and there is still so much to do! Students have certainly enjoyed the sunnier days. I have been opening the gym on Fridays at lunch for the primary students. With the help of some of the grade 3’s, we have been playing large group games. Currently Skittles, Four Corners and Sharks and Minnows are the favourites.

We are starting to see our 23/24 Kindergartens registering. If you know of current incoming K families that have not registered, please encourage them to contact the school!

EASE at Home (Everyday Anxiety Strategies)

It can be hard for adults to know what to say or do to ease a child’s worries, especially during times of change and uncertainty. As the most important big people in their world, parents and caregivers can help children feel safer and soften the sharp edges of whatever is making their worries grow.

Mark your calendar – Registration for Mini Med School Kootenays opens Monday, March 27 at 9:00 am.
Good morning,

On behalf of BC Children’s Hospital, I would like to invite you and your grade 10-12 students to attend Mini Med School on Friday, May 5, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Prestige Lakeside Resort, 701 Lakeside Drive, Nelson.

Mini Med School is a BC Children’s Hospital health science youth outreach program that connects high school students with big ideas, big discoveries and big names in health research. Admission is free but space is limited. Student registration will be available online between Monday, March 27 to Wednesday, April 5, 2023. To keep things fair for all students, participants will be selected based on a lottery draw.

The Mini Med School Kootenays schedule is now available online.

Presented by world-class researchers, clinicians and health professionals, featured activities for the day include:

  • Building blocks of immunity: What do immune cells eat?
  • 'Sneaky Superbugs': How do bacteria acquire antimicrobial resistance?
  • A balancing act: Building your microbiome
  • Journey of stem cells: A game of destinies
  • Recipe for disaster: Cholesterol and cardiovascular collapse

As the health and safety of our participants and faculty are the top priority, all attendees will be required to wear a mask during the event. As Mini Med School is a special event held outside the classroom, students will also be responsible for making their own arrangements to miss a day of classes and for transportation to the venue.

Feel free to distribute the attached poster to your students and colleagues. For more information please visit www.minimedschoolbc.ca.

If you’re interested in learning more about educational outreach opportunities presented by BC Children’s Hospital, we’d encourage you to subscribe to our newsletter.

Kind regards,
Ashley
