SNES News June 24
Hello Families,
Only a few days left of the 2023-24 school year. What a great year it has been. I have truly enjoyed being part of the South Nelson community this year and have felt so welcomed by all students, staff and parents. Thank you! I look forward to continuing the good work with you all next year.
See below for this week’s update.
Have a great last few days and enjoy your summer!
Last week’s highlights include:
- Year end field trips – We had so many year end field trips head out! That was the bulk of the activities for the week. Classes had outdoor excursion to Groham Narrows, Lions Park, Lakeside Park, and Kokanee Park. Our primary classes also completed their neighbourhood community trips to the museum and fire hall. And our intermediate classes went to see the new Inside Out 2 movie in Castlegar.
- Grade 5 Leaving Celebration – We had a great celebration and acknowledgement of our Gr. 5 students who are now moving onto Trafalgar next year for Gr. 6. Both Gr. 4/5 classes sang a couple of songs for us, and they all received a certificate of their completion. Congratulations! We will miss you here at South Nelson! Big thanks to Mrs. DeSousa and Mrs. Sparks for organizing
- Kindergarten Celebration – We also celebrated our Kindergartners on the completion of their first year of school. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and siblings came out to cheer them on and congratulate them on a year well done. Thanks to Mrs. Dimopoulos and Mrs. Lehnert for organizing
- Tipi awakening – There was a tipi awakening event held at Rosemont School. Several of our students attended with Ms. Corner, our Indigenous Success Teacher, to learn the teachings of the tipi and how to assemble it. Afterward, we were gifted with our own tipi to be used in upcoming years. We look forward to more learnings with it next year.
