Saturday Update - 05Feb22

Good day out there, South Nelson Community.

Our February submission for the monthly Superintendent's Report comes from Ms. Finnie's classroom.  Ms. Finnie’s Grade 4-5 class is in the midst of doing a cross curricular unit in both Literacy & Social Studies. We are looking at the big idea of  The Changing Nature of Immigration in Canada and asking big questions like “ What does it mean to be Canadian?” & “What is multiculturalism?”. Students have been reading different novels, which all have the underlying s themes of Immigration, Racism, and getting a glimpse into the life in a refugee. Through their literacy circles, students have been having rich discussions about how we can support new Immigrants or refugees  in our community and empathizing as to what life might be like in other parts of the world. This study will merge into the theme of Black History Month, for the upcoming month of February.

To the details...

Take care,

Dan Rude - Principal
