Pink Shirt Day

Choose kindness bulletin board

South Nelson students showed up in a great way for Pink Shirt day! It was great to see everyone showing off their pink shirts and “sprinkling” kindness.

We had a school wide assembly about Pink Shirt Day and learned about bullying, what it is (and is not), and ways we can help prevent it. Students learned to use their WITS (Walk away, Ignore, Talk it out, and Seek Help) when they see any form of teasing or unkind behaviours. We read the book, “BE KIND” by Zietlow Miller and classes had the opportunity to make kindness chains identifying all the ways they are kind around the school.

Our Kindie classes also read stories, sang songs about love, did a great lesson and sharing circle from Open Parachute: What It Means to Be A Friend. This is a focus for them everyday! Kindness and friendship are a continual theme for them as they learn to interact with many different kids at school

Our intermediate students designed their own pink shirts with meaningful messages in both English and French! They also dug deep on Open Parachute and closely looked at bullying behaviors, and the various types of bullying.

We conducted a yearly kindness survey of all students and the initial results show that kids think South Nelson is a kind school!

Great job, South Nelson students at making our school a caring and inclusive space for all!
