Clubs at South Nelson

Recess is a time for students to play, explore, and make friends. The playground is a busy place for this throughout the week!

At South Nelson, students also enjoy many indoor options to explore other forms of creative play. We offer interest clubs during the recess breaks that students can sign up for. These are very popular!

Craft club is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students come each week and make seasonal crafts. These include paper crafts, colouring, ornaments, cards, etc. They also help with making posters and bulletin board displays throughout the school.

Chess and games are offered on Mondays. Many students love to come and play a game of their choosing. It is a busy time as students learn new games and make new friends.

Build it club is a new club that is on Fridays at lunch. This is a place where students come to build different kinds of structures. These include using wooden blocks, marble runs, popsicle sticks, lego and 3D paper creations. Students have incredible creativity when building their creations!

For students who wish to have a slower pace at lunch recess, there are quiet clubs offered on Wednesdays.  They can join in on yoga class or go to the “chill zone”. These are quiet spaces provided for kids to dial back the noise, settle in, colour, and refocus for the afternoon.

Finally, our “Snack Pack” is a weekly group that works in the kitchen at recess to make healthy snacks. Students have been making apple chips, banana chips, bread and smoothies to take back to their classrooms. They are learning new ways to use and prepare food to share with others.

There is something for everyone at recess for kids at South Nelson! The outdoors is always a fun environment and our indoor clubs are always well attended and fill up quickly. Huge thanks to PAC who supports our clubs with generous donations for the supplies.
