Congratulations

  1. We are very proud of Ms. DeSousa’s Gr. 4/5 class for placing 2nd in the BC Library Links Reading Challenge on April 19th. Here is a write up about the event, “The Reading Link Challenge at Trafalgar today was a lot of fun!

The team was nervous to start the day.

Challenging against Rosemont and Brent Kennedy Grade 4/5’s, our class team came in second place, just two points behind the winning team.

As their teacher I feel that our class are true winners; audience and challengers. This class continues to remind me of how they can pull together as a team each day. Although there was some disappointment felt, I truly hope they each feel as proud of themselves as I do of them.

This was an excellent opportunity to make reading fun!”

  1. The Cardboard Arcade raised $489.65 for the BC Cancer Society. Thank you Gr. 4/5 classes for your fun afternoon.

Gr. 4/5 and 3/4 Class Homework Due April 28th

Please see the attached Social Project sheet. What you need to know:

  1. The intent of this is to have students identify a problem that they would like to work on. They should come up with their own solution (we want them to use their own problem solving and creativity). This will given them ownership and empower them to know that they have the power to positively impact change. If at all possible, please don’t let them google “social projects kids can do”, unless it is absolutely necessary.
  2. It is intended to mirror a real work situation, offer a lot of choice and personalization. They have been given the initial task of determining a project that they can move forward to better the school, community, province, world, etc. We will meet regularly and run the meetings as reporting out on progress, share ideas with each other, and what their next step it.
  3. Students should be asking you about an idea for a project and if you have suggestions or thoughts.
  4. They need to think about steps that they might need to do (i.e. write letter, create a presentation, take an action, lead an assembly, speak to the school board trustees, write a letter to the city, etc.)
  5. We will sit together to share what is being worked on, give compliments and suggestions.
  6. Students will set a goal of next steps and record it during the meetings.
  7. We will be holding meeting as small groups every couple weeks.
  8. The project completion is the end of June.
  9. Learning outcomes: creativity, goal setting, career skills, communications and presentation skills. The final product could be anything, the goal is to get a final product.
