Connection, Patience, Perseverance and Laughter

Image

Our June classroom is filled with confident learners, established friendships, laughter and smiling faces, beautiful singing, and well-established classroom and school routines. As spring came, so did new curiosities and a lot of spring energy, in and out of the classroom!
This May and June brought our next theme learning, Butterfly Metamorphosis with our Painted Lady Butterfly Larvae. Our caterpillars have started to get ready to make their chrysalis and complete their metamorphic process. This year, we have been in awe with the largest caterpillar in its “Villa” aka clear plastic lidded container. We have affectionally named it “Big One”.
The children created some beautiful butterfly lifecycle science/art which is displayed on our bulletin board. Very soon we will be caring for young adult Painted Lady butterflies and be able see our caterpillars complete their lifecycle as they transform into butterflies and be released back to nature.

At the end of May, we started visiting the Maple Forest with Mrs. Lehnert’s K/1 class as well as most of the class participating in Forest Free Play with Mrs. Snell during lunch recess on Mondays. My class has been having a wonderful time walking, observing and experiencing all that we have around us, upon the land on which we live and play. The discoveries, discussions, and teamwork in building “forts” is so exciting to see and hear.
