Friday Update - 17Dec21

South Nelson Community.

We wish you all the best over the holiday season and want to thank you for supporting our learning community!  A few details before we head out for our break.

  • SD8 & South Nelson January digital calendar -
  • SD8 COVID-19 resources page -
  • From the B.C. Ministry of Education - Following Public Health Guidance for a Safe Holiday Season
    • COVID-19 continues to circulate in our communities. Amid emerging evidence about the Omicron variant of COVID-19, it is imperative that everyone continues to follow BC’s public health guidance and use layers of protection to keep everyone safe throughout the holiday season. It is also important that everyone receive all doses of COVID-19 vaccine for which they are eligible, including booster doses when available. If you haven’t already, register now to book a vaccine appointment and receive an invitation when you are eligible to get another dose. The Provincial Health Officer strongly encourages everyone to limit holiday gatherings to family and trusted friends who have been vaccinated, and to avoid non-essential travel outside of Canada. Connecting with the people we love and care for is important and we encourage everyone to have a small, safe and happy holiday.
Staff and students who travel should be reminded to regularly review information from the Government of Canada - COVID-19: Travel, testing and borders - - recognizing requirements are subject to change, particularly in light of the rapidly evolving situation due to the Omicron variant.
  • French Immersion Information Night for 2021-22 for current grade 5 families - Nelson Late French Immersion 2021/2022.  All students who have successfully completed Grade 5 and are residents in Kootenay Lake School District 8 are eligible. The program is located at Trafalgar Middle School for Grades 6–9, and continues for Grades 10-12 at LV Rogers Secondary School beginning in 2021-22.
  • MindUP for Life for families - There is Free memberships for those that have a demonstrated financial need. The link below has a fillable form that people with Financial hardship can apply for a free membership and resources.
  • Upon returning in January, please be sure to not park in the bus zone in front of the school on Hendryx Street.  This can be an ongoing problem for the drivers and become a safety hazard.

Take care, everyone.
